Structural Engineer (small residential)

We are looking for an experienced and seasoned structural engineer that loves design engineering but feels stifled by the growing company grind –engineering work that utilizes your extensive problem-solving skills while helping Owners and Contractors that need your help and advice on their small building projects.

We are a Boutique Engineering and Municipal Planning firm that specializes in the design and Construction of Houses and Small Buildings as well as small remodelling projects including basement renovations, separate entrance, bearing wall removals, secondary units, extensions, etc. We don’t do large projects – instead, we focus on small ones! Our work is almost exclusively houses, which require Engineering services in just the same way as do large buildings. What is great about this work is its “hands-on” nature and the appreciation that we receive directly from our clients when we can quickly resolve their problems. We are taking over the projects covering both design and drawings preparation as well as municipal planning and approval process including zoning, permits, site plans, etc.

We are looking for an Engineer who truly loves engineering and problem-solving skills and is happy working with small engineering projects. This is an opportunity for those who are interested as a side part-time job and moonlighting as if he/she owns the business! Most of our work revolves around wood-frame structures with some steel and concrete components.

The candidate must have a degree in Structural Engineering from a PEO accredited Engineering School and mustbe a Professional Engineer Licensed in the Province of Ontario. The candidate should have at least 15 years of relevant structural design experience to be suitable for this position. If the candidate is not familiar with acronyms such as LVL, OSB, and CLT, then they are likely not suitable for this position as it requires direct experience with the design of wood-frame houses.

Requirements

• Licensed Professional Engineer – PEO
• Comprehensive Experience with Wood Frame House Construction and Remodelling
• Excellent written and oral English Language Skills
• Ability and willingness to meet new clients, carry out Construction Field Reviews and Resolve Design and Construction Problems Independently in the Field, write Fee Proposals
• Familiarity with structural design software such as Forte, Woodworks, SAP2000, AutoCAD and REVIT
• Valid Drivers Licence
